Common questions about Maternity Photography
Where does the maternity photography session take place?

Maternity photoshoots can either take place at home, a location special to you or I can suggest specific locations based on what style you are after.
How do I book a maternity photography session with you?
Please send me a message via the contact me form on my website and we can work together to find a suitable date and location. A small non-refundable deposit is required to secure the session (cost varies depending on package) and the remaining balance will be due the day before the shoot.
When is the best time to have a maternity photoshoot?
Any time between 28-36 weeks usually works well for a maternity photoshoot as your bump will be clearly showing and is unlikely to have dropped yet. If you are expecting twins or more, then the shoot is usually done a bit earlier between 26-32 weeks.
Who else should be involved in my maternity photoshoot?
It's entirely up to you. Some women want to just have photos by themself, whereas others want to include their partner and any children they already have. Personally I think it tells your story better to include your partner (and children!) in your maternity shoot as they are part of your journey.
What happens if my children aren't keen on having their photo taken?
We all have off days, and some times no matter how hard we try your little ones might not be keen at the beginning. However, family photoshoots usually last between 1-1.5 hours though so there is plenty of time for them to warm up. I have plenty of experience with this and will come equipped with a bag of tricks to win them round! Silly games and running around usually works, and if not I’ll have some extra surprises in my back pocket on the day.
How much does a maternity photoshoot cost?
I have different maternity package options to suit every budget; there are four packages to pick from across photoshoots at home or outdoors on location.
What should I wear for my maternity photoshoot?
Something you feel comfortable in! It's your photoshoot so you can be in an outfit you feel comfortable in, or we can do a combination of clothed and bump out pictures. I have a handy style guide that is included with all packages to help you with deciding what to wear ahead of your photoshoot. Layers are a good way to create different looks from one outfit, or you can bring a couple of options and change during the shoot.
What should I bring to the maternity photography session?
The photoshoot is about documenting your personal pregnancy journey so feel free to bring things like scans or special keepsakes you have from your pregnancy.
Do you take any traditional posed photographs?
My style is natural and candid, so I usually try to avoid photos that are too posed. Photos with little ones included tend to come out best if children are enjoying themselves and playing and interacting naturally, rather than being too scripted. This tends to bring out their true characters and also makes things a bit more fun for them! If there are specific shots you would like let me know and we can aim to include them.
What happens if it is raining or cloudy on the day of the maternity photoshoot?
I keep a close eye on the weather leading up to an outdoor shoot, and if rain is planned a couple of days before then I will contact you to discuss rescheduling. If the day is overcast we will still go ahead with the session as this can create beautifully soft light as well as interesting textures in the sky.
Do you photograph in colour or black and white?
I shoot all of my photographs in RAW format and then edit them to a colour or black and white profile depending on what I think will artistically work best with each individual photo. If you have an image in colour that you would like in black and white or vice versa, I am happy to do this on request.
How do I view the photos after the session?
You will receieve some sneak peaks within 2 days of your shoot so you can see some of the highlights from the day. The full gallery will then be emailed to you within 3 weeks of the shoot. From here you'll be able to select your images to keep, and if you just can't whittle them down you'll be able to add on additional images, prints and photo albums.
Is your photography business insured?
Yes, I have both public liability insurance and professional indemnity insurance for the business. I am happy to share the details of this upon request if proof is needed.
Can we include pets in our maternity photoshoot?
Of course, I love animals! We have labradoodle called Ted who was our orignal baby before the children so I totally get how important pets are to the family.
